BAROQUE IMPACT ON JAPAN

It is very easy to notice the way baroque art greatly influenced Japanese fashion. Baroque art shows how grand and over top details can portray beauty. After watching a documentary on the life of the Austrian born french queen Marie Antoinette dressed and lived the high life. she wore extremely high hair up to 3 feet! with feather and she also wore a lot of expensive dresses. which had a lot of vows and details.

there are many styles of Japanese fashion which are similar to the french baroque style of art. but the ones which are the closest are sweet Lolita, and hime gyaru, Lolita have a lot of dresses which are very big just like the old french dresses the high class women wore in the 1700's. they also have a lot of bows and ribbons all over. they use a lot of light colors and some are a bit more Gothic. they also mimic children's Victorian style clothing and carry umbrellas similar to the ones they carried in France.

hime gyaru is very interesting. they wear a lot of bright colors and very big hair. many bows are wore. they also wear brown hair and jewels on their  nails.

baquore are contains over the top details full of life and details. gives the viewer a sense of travelling through time and standing besides royalty. the Japanese took this sense of glamour and modernized it and gave birth to a very unique style of dress which makes the wearer look mystical, sexy and just plain gorgeous. i prefer the french simply because in portraits the kings and prince had big capes, long hair, long royal golden canes. and they also embraced the royal and my favorite color purple. they had too many layers which almost made them look like gods next to one another. if sometime in the future a modern style closer to the french style becomes available i will be first line to get my cape.

“Painting vs Photography”

It is very hard to take photography a serious medium for art because how easy it is to pick up at least for The casual photographer not the hardcore. but at the same time there are a lot of amazing things that can be Created by using photography. I also believe that photography should not be compared to painting because When you paint you have full control of the subject matter, and how you are going to present it or display it. When it comes to photography thee subject matter once is chosen the only control the individual has is the them and the feel of the scene. they have control of the angle and point of view.

I personally think painting is a better form of art just because the skill and patient one must have to create a Beautiful piece. unlike photography in which with a click of a button an image is created. before the creation Of programs like adobes Photoshop  photography was more legit. but with these new technologies available It requires more knowledge of the program than to actually taking pictures to create art.

When it comes to painting you must be patient and let the paint dry before proceeding. While you do that You also need to keep the image you want to create in your mind which is a hard thing to do when drawing Anything from memory.

blog #4 Greece versus Egypt

In art 11 we learned a lot about the way the ancient Egyptians way of life. But most importantly we learned a great deal about their art. ranging from sculptures and their architecture. We also learned a lot about the Greeks. Which came after the Egyptians. they advanced in the arts and took it farther than the Egyptians. in class many agreed that the Egyptians had better art. I disagreed I think the Greeks definitively surpassed the Egyptian and had better creations.

In contrast to the egyptians, the greeks added alot more realistic details to their sculptures. They had a great love for the human anatomy. the egyptians had very stiff sculptures. While the greeks had them leaning and in better poses. The greeks also added alot of details to the faces they smiled and had serious faces. They also greatly enphasised on the anatomy they drew all the muscles in the body with great details.

The Egyptians stopped once they reached their goal of portraying a human being. the Greeks reach that level also. But they found it quite boring . So they took it further than the Egyptians. They exaggerated features like bigger muscles and gave them extra tone better and more appealing the the average man. This is the main reason why i think the Greeks were better not only they they master the natural portrayal of man. they gave us super natural power and made us god on earth.

blog # 3 portrait "drawing1"

I can not remember the last time i did a still life drawing. it is my favorite type of art because i think it is very hard to hold an image in your mind to then replicate it in your mind. Last time i drew i was in in the high school of art and design in my sophomore year before switching to pursue architecture. Later on to realize that i did not have a passion for it. The main reason i did not have a career in the arts is because i do not see how i can live of it. I love owning art and creating art as a hobby.

This particular drawing was a bit hard. The most difficult parts were her lips and the shadow on her face. Is was very light and it was hard to draw it out on the paper. Her hair was not a problem because i used a lot of lines light and dark to add volume in places where it was needed. Her lips were hard to draw because they were not too plum. and it was hard to give them a 3 dimensional effect. The best way i went about the shadow over her face was to lightly pass my finger over her face and give her a tan then with my eraser give her the light part where she needed it which was mostly by her left cheek bone. I did not get to go into more details when it came to her torso since i ran out of time. But my main focus was her face. I really enjoyed drawing  my class mate it brought me back into something i enjoyed doing.

blog #2

The average person looks at modern skyscrapers and probably thinks that today technological advances are responsible for the cranes that lift heavy objects into the air. Little do they know that studies about the ancient world helped us advance further in construction and in the arts. We can thank the ancient Egyptians, because the remains of their old society taught us that lack of modern technology did not stop them from giving birth to huge grandiose monuments. We can also thank them for papyrus scrolls. Which is writing paper they created from the papyrus plant.

The great pyramids are the perfect example. The Egyptians did not use slave workers to create these wonderful buildings. They used their own people who loved and worshiped they walking god and king the pharaoh. They used manual labor to push and drag big pieces of lime stones or cut stones across the hot desert. The Egyptian's process helps us today they used exact measurements to construct and build. The bases of their pyramids base were 90 degrees perfect angled squares. They also greatly used the canons of proportions when depicting their pharaohs and queens. They depicted their people with amazing accurate details. They had the head arms and legs in proportion to the whole body and did not exaggerate.

In conclusion the Egyptian's are very important and relevant today. they help us travel back in time to learn about their culture and to learn more about how we have evolved as a society as a whole. They also have inspired many artist in they work.

Thinking out loud a resposnse to Jerry Saltz

Jerry Saltz has a deep appreciation and love for art and the art world. he feels strongly about what is considered art and how art is criticized. He believes he has an eye for art and art criticism. in an article he wrote for "frieze" magazine he states "i look for originality, surprise, obsession, energy, experimentation, something visionary and a willingness to embrace oneself in public" (1). Jerry does not look for skill in art; he cares more about unique and controversial pieces. Considering he is a self taught critic and argues that most artist have their own personal styles and are in one way or another are self taught. I understand his point because with the more variety we have in the art world he farther we expand our knowledge and the way we look and portray the world.

I still do not agree with jerry because i believe that skill is the original essence when an artist spends long hard months or years to present to us another way to view life. The story behind the piece should always follow alongside of it because it is easy to tell when and artist gave their all to create piece no matter how easy they make it seem at the same time and that genius should always be admired and praised. so when critics or artist set the bar for quality it will inspired others to push the envelope.

Art to me is to use your mind to its full extend and power to bring life to an empty canvas. My views on art are different form jerry's, but we still have some similarities. I agree with unique pieces, controversial and it should also carry a message. i am forever impressed by michelangelos "creation of adam". It is a master piece for its time. The way he drew the angels carrying god and the proportions are so accurate to the human eye. This type of art is what made me want to pursue a career in art.

In conclusion Jerry Saltz and i have a lot of love and appreciation for the art world. we are fond of what the human psych can create when a lot of discipline, concentration and patients are combined. we also have different opinions on the standard when it comes to what is art. It is safe to say beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
